Every day we create a trail of digital footprints. Each time we tap our bank card, search for directions or scroll on social media, we are passively creating data.
Taken in isolation, this data might seem insignificant, but at scale it becomes smart data as it reveals powerful socio-economic patterns of real-world, real-time information – showing how people are really living.
Social enterprise Smart Data Foundry have used this data to build an Economic Wellbeing Explorer. This is a map-based tool which uses indicators based on real-world financial data from millions of banking records that show how people are responding to economic shocks and changes in circumstances. The tool allows organisations to identify areas of hidden need and can help to deliver more targeted services and support.
This event will showcase how smart data can be used alongside public sector data to understand economic wellbeing of Scotland, its regions and its local authorities in near real-time.
